Cabra Baja Mine, Villanueva del Fresno, Badajoz, Extremadura, Spain

Old uranium-REE mine mined in the 1960's by the Junta Energia Nuclear (JEN). The deposit lies within a regional structural breccia developed within Silurian carbonaceous shales. The mineralisation is associated with aplitic veins and pegmatites in relation to an albitic leucogranite intrusion of Carboniferous age. It is estimated that 65'000 tonnes of ore with a grade of 0.15% U were mined.
