Produced about 1,500 tons of phosphate from massive green apatite, between 1888 and 1892. Became uneconomic when sedimentary phosphates were discovered in Florida, etc.

Not to be confused with the nearby mine of similar name just across the border in Bedford township (Opinicon Lake Mine, https://www.mindat.org/loc-192167.html)

Note: Storrington Township was at some point incorporated into Pittsburgh Township and ceased to exist. However subsequently the two were divided up again with the old Storrington Township being amalgamated with Portland, Bedford, and Loughborough Townships to form the new South Frontinac Township and the old Pittsburgh Township has become part of the new Township of Kingston.
