Ruby deposit about 45-70 kilometers east of the town of Andilamena. The mining area even though it is known as "Andilamena ruby deposit", is not administratively located in the Andilamena District, but in the Fenoarivo District. The reason for the name "Andilamena" is cause to the fact that the rubies and the miners are passing through the town of Andilamena. There are now 2 growing mining towns, Moramanga and Antananarivokely in the mining area.
At the beginning of the year 2001, it was estimated that between 30.000-40.000 miners worked here. The ruby boom happened in the years 2000-2004.

Not to be confused by the "Andilamena" quartz locality with scepter, twins etc.
