Petrified wood in a world-famous petrified forest.A large area is protected by law (national park in part).
Kyria Apolithomeni, ca. 8 km NE of Sigri, is the locality where the forest itself has been preserved; it lies within the core zone of about 15,000 hectares.
A museum can be visited.
