Argenta Prospects, Juneau District, Juneau Borough, Alaska, USA

Longitude: 133°45'18"W
Location: These old prospects are probably about 0.1 mile northwest of peak 1651 and about 4 miles south of the abandoned town of Snettisham in what is locally called the Argenta Basin. The prospect is about 0.6 mile south-southeast of the center of section 28, T. 45 S., R. 72 E.
Geology: Little is known about the prospects in the Argenta Basin other than that copper, silver, and gold deposits were located there in 1889 (Redman and others, 1989). Work continued through 1892 and two adits were driven, one 150 feet long and the other 125 feet long. The is no record of work after 1901. The rocks in the basin are mafic volcanic rocks and black phyllite, part of the Permian to Cretaceous metavolcanic unit of Gehrels and Berg (1992). Concordant quartz veins with pyrite and pyrrhotite are common.
Workings: Two adits, one 125 feet long and the other 150 feet long.
