The Pelagie or Pelagian Islands are located in the Sicily Channel and lie ca. 200 km SSW of the Sicilian coast and ca. 100 km east of Tunisia.
Linosa, the northernmost of them, is entirely volcanic whereas Lampedusa and Lampione, the southernmost islands of the group, represent the only subaerial exposure of Tertiary carbonate strata within the northern part of the African continental plate called the Pelagian Block.
