Cuiabá mine, Sabará, Iron Quadrangle, Minas Gerais, Southeast Region, Brazil

Gold deposit, hosted in a banded iron formation (BIF) unit sandwiched between a footwall sequence of metamorphosed mafic volcanic rocks and a hanging wall sequence of intercalated carbonaceous phyllite and schist. The mine was started in 1986 and produced about 45 tons of gold until 1999, making it the largest BIF-hosted producer in the Iron Quadrangle.
