Mine du Treuil [Puits de la Manufacture, Puits de la Pompe, Puits du Grand-Treuil, Puits Achille, Puits Bourgoing, Puits Providence, Puits Nicolas, Puits du Petit-Treuil, Puits du Gris-de-Lin]

One of the biggest old coalmine of St Etienne, first worked in a quarry then underground up to 600 m depth. It was located between the Crêt-de-Roc hill and the Jules Janin avenue but nothing remain today (shafts closed in 1964). During the coal operation, only three layers mineralized with ankerite-siderite and some sulphides were found between sandstones and coal layers. The ore from these layers was send to the steel mills of Terrenoire but some specimens are now in the collections of the St Etienne School of Mines (Ecole des Mines de St Etienne).
