The occurrence of jasper (chalcedony) in southwestern Poland, in beds as thick as 1.8 m. The material is described as "cherry-red, red-grey, brick-red, creamy-green and green" in color, with hematite streaks visible in hand specimens. Chemical analysis of representative samples revealed an SiO2 content of more than 77 wt.%, with Fe203 content varying with the intensity of the red color component. Traces of copper were also found and appear to give rise to the green coloration. X-ray diffraction, thermal analysis, and infrared spectrometry contributed to the identification of included minerals such as opal, hematite, and dolomite.
