Iron deposit, Bourbach-le-Bas, Thann, Thur Valley (Thann Valley), Haut-Rhin, Alsace, France

(Gisement ferrifère, Bourbach-le-Bas, Thann, Vallée de la Thur (Vallée de Thann), Haut-Rhin, Alsace, France)

Iron-bearing veins, hosted by volcano-sedimentary rocks of the Thann series (upper Visé), trending in northeastern directions and dipping at 20° to the southeast. Their widths vary from several centimeters to more than five meters. They were worked from four districts, named "Bildstoeckle", "Georgenwald", "Knapphütte" and "Krast". It is not known when the mines were started, but they were certainly already active in the 18th century.
