Gåsgruvanbrottet, Persbergs malmtrakt, Filipstad, Värmland, Sverige
Gåsgruvan started as a limestone quarry in the middle of 1850 owned by the Persberg Mining Co, running a limited production (~5000(?)). After the WWII an exploration programme showed that the resources were large and could motivate a larger production.
1980 the owner at that time Uddeholm AB sold the property to Svenska Mineral AB (today SMA Mineral AB).
Today it is a large limestone quarry with a production of plus 200.000 t of limestone a year.
From a historical perspective the occurrence has not been mineralogically interesing (Sandström, et al. 2009) but it has changed dramatically since the original mine has incorporated nearby old mines.
