Zeolites are abundant in a small quarry in Eocence basalt of Crescent Formation in the Black Hills, Capitol State Forest, near Porter, Grays Harbor County, Washington. The quarry is named the Four Mile Quarry because of a mileage marker painted on a rock right at the quarry that indicates the distance on road C-1000 from Highway 12. The site was first found by Ray Claude in 1991. This quarry contains an abundance of cowlesite with associated minerals making it the best cowlesite locality in the Pacific Northwest. Cavities are all small, containing only micro crystals. No cabinet specimens have been found. The rock has been quarried for logging road surfacing and is now becoming overgrown with trees. The site has been used for target practicing, therefore, care must be taken when shooters are present. Since this is state land, collecting is allowed.
