Steinsås Mine, Barbudalen, Arendal Iron Mines, Arendal, Aust-Agder, Norway
Steinsås gruve, Barbudalen, Arendal jerngruver, Arendal kommune, Aust-Agder fylke, NorgeOne of the oldest Fe mines in Arendal.
Located on a hillside with surrounding houses. The shaft opening is about 50m long and 15-20m wide. The length and depth of the mine is uncertain, but measured from map it spans about 130m in length and 40-45m down to a wooden door at the hill-face. The door is easily spotted since its located right beside one of the leading roads into Arendal. Up till recent times, the mine was filled with garbage, but several years ago large amounts of garbage were removed. There is a lot of evidence regarding the mining operations that went on, many openings have been walled in and dikes are present.
