Shaft associated with the Detroit Salt Company Mine. The first attempt to sink a shaft for mining salt was started in 1902, but was a failure. A second attempt took place, but at 420 feet in depth, workers were overcome with flooding water and hydrogen sulphide gas. Total depth was 1,060 feet.
