An area of about 60,000 km2 characterized by extended middle to late Jurassic bimodal volcanic rocks (Bahía Laura Group and Bajo Pobre Formation) and with associated low sulphidation (LS) epithermal mineralization. It is associated with the rifting that formed the Atlantic Ocean. It is now one of the most important mining regions in Argentina with four active mines, including Cerro Vanguardia, Martha Mine (Coeur), San José (Minera Andes/Hochschild) and Manantial Espejo (Pan American Silver).
