Chicligasta Department is a department located in the southwest of Tucumán Province, Argentina. Chicligasta’s largest city, and its Department seat as well, is Concepción.

History:
By rule of law number 19059, the nation ordered the three areas for mining research reserve in the province of Tucumán, completing similar provisions, whose essential purpose is, for the moment, the assessment of the possibilities of mining economic performance. The three areas on which the Under-Secretary of mining of the nation had jurisdiction until 31 December 1974 were the so-called:

a)- "Aconquija", in the Chicligasta Department,
b)- "Cerro Quico" in La Cocha Department,
c)- "Chavarría" in Juan Bautista Alberdi Department.

The corresponding technical report pointed out that the first of these areas presents veins of Lead and Zinc and important areas of hydrothermal alteration, with possibilities of Copper spread in rocks.

The "Chavarría" area was included due to geochemical values of Tungsten and the corresponding to "Cerro Quico", also by alluvial Cassiterite and Wolfram.
