The presence of oil Shales in the area of the Chulca River, Trancas Department has been detected and described, placing them about 25 kilometers west of the city of Trancas, in the locality of Talapunco, on the right bank of the Chulca River, 12 km from the city of San Pedro de Colalao; on both banks of the Chulca River emerges covered by vegetation, sediment of a set that is comparable to the limestone dolomitic, in this succession and in the middle of green clays and yellowish Marly sandstone, a layer of papiraceos, corrugated bitumen Shales of 0.30 to 0.50 meters thick appears. The whole tilts 40 ° South this with 55 ° angle. The tenor of mineral oil reaches 13.4%.
