The earliest known documentation which exist regarding the coal occurrences in Skåne is a letter from the Danish King sent 1571 to his Officer in Charge at the Helsingborg Castle. The King wrote that since the miner Melchior Huscher had found coal on estate belonging to the town he wanted that the City and the Mayor should allow it.
