A number of mines just north of the East River. They were worked between 1823 and 1904. They are now overgrown, though dangerous shafts still exist in the area. The mines were important for the province, until overshadowed by Londonderry.

In 1904, several hundred pounds of ore were shipped to the Louisiana World Exposition, and won a Gold Medal, which was awarded to F.H. Chambers.

A number of 'mines' exist in the area. The coordinates are just for the general area. The names of the various working in the area include: the Fraser Prospect, Cameron Mine, J.S. Cameron Mine, Grant Mines, McDonald Mine, Saddler Deposit, Black Diamond Mine, and the Black Rock Mine.

A note on ankerite: Recent redefinitions of the ankerite-dolomite series mean that many samples that would have been classified as ankerite would now be defined as dolomite (iron-rich dolomite) and true ankerite is quite rare.
