The largest and the oldest of the silver mines in the Kongsberg Silver Mining District. Mining was started 18. October 1623, and were in operation until mining ended in Kongsberg. The deepest shaft in Kongens Mine is 1070 meter deep (ca. 500 meter below sea level!).
The name "Kongens mine" translated in english means the Kings mine.
