Vagli di Sotto, Apuan Alps, Lucca Province, Tuscany, Italy

(Vagli, Alpi Apuane, Lucca, Toscana, Italia)

In this area are present some mineralizations embedded in the metamorphic formations of the Nucleo Metamorfico Apuano. The rocks present in this area are metamorphosed to the greenschist facies.
The most important localities where it is possible to collect interesting samples are:
-Castagnola, S of Vagli di Sopra town;
-Arnetola Valley.
In the metacherts of Diaspri formation are present quartz-carbonate veins with Mn-minerals, hematite and Ti-oxides. Cu mineralizations are present in the metapelites of Scisti sericitici formation; in Arnetola valley there are some old copper mines. Finally, there are a lot of marble quarries (active and abandoned); in these quarries there are some typical marble minerals (quartz, dolomite, calcite, sulphide, sulphosalts ...).
