Argentiera di Sant'Anna Mines, Sant'Anna di Stazzema, Stazzema, Apuan Alps, Lucca Province, Tuscany, Italy

(Miniere dell'Argentiera di Sant'Anna, Sant'Anna di Stazzema, Stazzema, Alpi Apuane, Lucca, Toscana, Italia)

The mining complex named “Argentiera di S.Anna” is formed by many tunnels, some of them of medieval origin, that were digged to follow the rich-in-silver galena veins, that represent the southern prosecution of Bottino area. Other mines and galleries were digged also to follow iron mineralizations that interaest the tectonic contact between porphiric paleozoic rocks and limestone metamorphic formations. The most important tunnels and levels of this area are: S. Barbara tunnel (585 m) and Fontana tunnel (750 m). The first was digged in 1843 and worked up to 1960. Famous of this tunnel are siderite, cerussite, galena, barite e bournonite. Fontana tunnel is important for its bournonite and magnetite specimens.
Other tunnels are: Le Trincee tunnel (790 m); Rava tunnel (775 m); dell'Acqua tunnel (728 m); Pollastrelli tunnel (714 m); Bussoli tunnel (706 m); Buca Trave tunnel (690 m); Bocca Tana tunnel (684 m); Fondoni tunnel (678 m); Felcini tunnel (653 m); Pungitopi tunnel (646 m); Metato tunnel (646 m); Pozzo al Fabbro tunnel (623 m); Ribasso Santa Barbara (554 m).
