East of Neudorf and south of the Birnbaumteich (well-known campsite) lies the old mining area "Vorderer Birnbaum" (Front Birnbaum Shafts). In the 17th and 18th centuries, iron ore was mined here in the Grube Beständige Freundschaft und Friedenszeche. In 1764 the mining was stopped. From 1813 to after 1863 a new mining was carried out by extending the vein in both directions.
Oelke calls this mining “Mittlerer Birnbaum”. On the geological map of Prussia from 1882 (edited by Lossen), the mine is only called “Grube Birnbaum”. The vast majority of the stockpile material probably comes from this operating period.
