The Knappagruaba area is the centre of the ancient mining activities (Bronze-age to Mediaeval). A tourist mine (St. Anna adit, opened in 2010, N47.09823, E9.91693) can be visited; its accessible length is 120 m, but the true length is not known. Another, nearby mine (Barabara mine) is not accessible to the public. Since the original names of both mines are not known, they were renamed after making them accessible.
Knappagruaba literally means 'miners' pits'.
