Ordinary Chondrite (H5), black
Find 1921, 9.06 kg
A meteoritic stone was found in 1921 but was not recognized as meteoritic until 1956. When examined it was observed to be crusted with oxides and cavities and several small pieces had been chipped away. Chondrules and Fe-Ni metal were evident upon inspection and the meteorite was placed on display, but does not otherwise seem to have been intensively studied.
Franklin is one of 6 ordinary chondrites recovered in Kentucky — 3 witnessed falls and 3 finds. The main mass has remained at UCLA where it was first studied.
