The ore is hosted by interbedded BIF formations and amphibolite, folded about a north-east to south-west trend, dipping steeply south-east axial planes, intruded by south-east to south-west trending and south-east dipping shear.
The main mineralised zone coincides with very steep, north-east plunging and south-east fold nose of BIF. The shear zones dip less than the fold axis, and passes out of the fold at about the 100 metre level from the surface, which also marks the end of the mineralisation.
Gold is associated with sulphides, with or without quartz veining, in BIF and to a lesser extent the adjacent amphibolites. There is a distinct thickening of the mineralisation by supergene processes 30 to 40 metres below the surface now largely mined out. Below this the richer mineralisation occurs as small pods and tension fillings within a broad lens shaped zone that parallels the BIF.

This geological map and associated information on rock units at or nearby to the coordinates given for this locality is based on relatively small scale geological maps provided by various national Geological Surveys. This does not necessarily represent the complete geology at this locality but it gives a background for the region in which it is found.
