In several open-cut pits nickel ore (Ni silicates) was mined from 1952-1990.
The nickel ore originated from the weathering of a Ni-rich serpentinite body.
This nickel deposit was the largest one in Central Europe.
It is famous among collectors for the unexpected occurrence in 1977 of crocoite in the North 1 open cut.
