A nearly intact, but somewhat corroded iron meteorite (~10% Ni) found about 8 km from Buenaventura was purchased by UCLA. Multifarious Fe-Ni metal is dominant as kamacite with Neumann bands, generally martensitic plessite, taenite, and even tetrataenite. Schreibersite and troilite are also readily observed.
Buenaventura is one of 4 IIIAB iron meteorites which have been found in Mexico. These include the enormous 24.3 ton Chupaderos iron which was also recovered in Chihuahua.
