Abandoned quarry (water filled)
Description work setting value infrastructure: Two crushed stone quarries were exploited. The first (because. D "Upton) on Lot 51, consists of an excavation (waterfilled)150 m long and 25 m wide. The second (since. Jules Martin) on lot 48 is 900 m northeast of the first.
Geological Description: Essentially a thin and slightly recrystallized Calcarenite Acton Vale, sometimes very fine parallel laminations (especially in the lower half of the sequence). The rock is light gray color, poorly defined beds from 30 cm to over one meter, and contains few small pockets of chert (15-25 cm diameter). The orientation of the strata is n095 / 20-35.
Comment – disadvantageous items: Presence of a system of orthogonal seals filled with calcite (1-7 cm wide) sometimes highly mineralized (mainly malachite, chalcopyrite and pyrite). The observed mineralization is seen especially in the localized outcrop south of the quarry. The levels are irregular and usually quite high in silica and magnesia.
Comment - additional information: limestone deposit essentially the same type as that used in Acton Vale. Lithogeochemical analysis: (%) 1 2 3 SiO2 Al2O3 6.95 5.48 2.75 0.70 0.54 0.45 49.59 46.38 51.35 CaO MgO 0.04 0.04 0.08 Fe2O3 0.53 1.10 0.45 1. Outcrop of lot 50, rang XXI (Goudge, 1935) 2. outcrop on the property A. Houle, lot 49, rang XXI (Goudge, 1935) 3. Typical limestone taken from the career on Lot 51 (75-3064 CRM)
