Lupton's Gold Mine
The Great Saddle (also known as the Lupton mine) came to prominence in the area from 1910. The company took over the Sugarstone, Mystery, and the Wha mines, and had Three Star under option, with the intent of carting ore back to its parent mine battery. However, by 1912, this appears to have ceased operations.
The mine manager was Sidney Weston. At its height the mine employed 120 men. The main shaft at Lupton's was down to 200 feet, with 500 feet of driving, on three shoots of stone. The reef was said to average 4 to 5 feet wide.
