Limited and disjointed information was found on this location. For a period shortly after 1900,the mine was known as the Broad Arrow Consols, and this name again pops up linked to the Liberty in 1935. The mine being about 10 kilometres south-west of Broad Arrow is not really near the town.
The mine was floated in London for 260 000 pounds capital, with 60 000 going to the prospectors. A 10 head mill was erected which operated until 1908, with over 10 000 tonnes of ore processed producing 5950 ounces. The main shaft was down to 200 feet with the water level at 170 feet. Considering the scale of operations it is thought more information should have been found.
In the parallel universe of other sources, they state the Liberty mine produced only 299 tonnes for 375 ounces. Crushings on this scale were found during 1897. The liberty mine is first named as the Broad Arrow Consols in 1900, as part of a small Eastern States syndicate. Jules Binet is mine manager, also named as the original prospector. The mine produced local cricket and football teams until 1905, giving an indication of when activity ceased at the mine. There is a chance here the sources have mixed two different mines with the same name in the district.
In 1935, the Broad Arrow Consols is P.A. 2494, 24 acres, owned by Molyneux and Allengames. The source refers to the large scale operations of the mine in the 1890's, and that it is 7 miles south-west of Broad Arrow. These prospectors have opened a parallel 3 foot wide reef to the old workings. The Liberty mine is mentioned as a separate lease adjoining to the north owned by Topping and Harrower, and a few crushings have emanated from this as well. A rich dab worth 54.83 ounces was found in 1937.
Little remains at the site other than a spread out overgrown battery sands remnants, and possibly a shaft bordering to the north. The site is 100 metres south of the Mt Pleasant-Broad Arrow Road, and just east of the Black Flag turnoff heading south.
