The Princess Margaret achieved 632 tonnes of ore yielding 989 ounces. It was controlled by the Princess Margaret Gold Mining Company from late 1896. Rich specimens were found at the 200 foot level. The lease was only 8 acres, but was expanded to 30 acres in early 1897 when lease 1572E was purchased on its western boundary. Ore was being crushed at the Queen Margaret mine battery, and it was also supplying this battery with water.

Early 1900 the lease was amalgamated with the Queen Margaret mine. The engine and boiler was removed in 1901 to the White Horse mine the company also owned. The Queen Margaret company closed down in 1903, and in 1908 it sold its leases, plant and buildings at auction. Bidding was subdued with the Queen Margaret mine lease achieving 25 pounds, Melbourne United 5 pounds, Princess Margaret 5 pounds, the Queen Margaret battery 85 pounds, and winding plant 232 pounds (both purchased by Charles de Bernales).
