Locality type:
The Capel Shire is wedged between the cities of Busselton and Bunbury, 220 kilometres south of Perth. Towns include Capel itself, the southern suburbs of Bunbury like Stratham, Dalyellup and Gelorup, holiday home village of Peppermint Grove along Geographe Bay, and inland to Boyanup.
The shire covers 557.6 square kilometres, containing a population of 16 447 (2013). The shire contains 29 kilometres of beach front, then extends inland across the Swan Coastal Plain, and the Darling scarp frontage. The plain is cleared agricultural land, with the Ludlow Tuart Forest dominating the south. The scarp is forested. The main industries is dairying, beef, some fruit growing, and mineral sand mining.
