An abandoned gold mine

Operated by the Winnecke Golden Junction No. 1 Syndicate from 1903. Within a few months work was suspended. The outcome of mining at the location was described as unsatisfactory, useless, discouraging, and a mostly barren outcrop. Regardless, the lease was acquired by the Slug Hill Proprietary Company, but further mining is uncertain, comprising 60 acres, 400 yards east of the original reward claim.

Historically described as sandstone schist, hornblende bands, and gneissic schist, with quartz blows on hills, 3-15 feet wide, trending east-west, dipping 45 degrees north. Most blows were valueless it states apart from one at 2-3 dwt, with also minor galena. The inspection concluded with ' do not spend any more money on this property'.

Modern geology information states the mine is 300 metres east of the Golden Goose. Gold mineralisation is found in a single east trending quartz reef up to 2 metres thick, with localised Fe filled cavities, trace copper carbonates, along a length of 30 metres, and hosted by pelitic, and psammitic schist.
