The actual locality where lead is/was found in the Tubac area is uncertain. Because the Tubac marker is near the center of town and an ancient military site, it has been supposed that the lead may be anthropogenic. More specific information is needed. ‡Ref.: Anthony, J.W., et al (1995), Mineralogy of Arizona, 3rd. ed.: 273.

Lead ?
Formula: Pb
Description: Occurs replacing plant roots, but natural origin is not confirmed by in situ studies, and there are no reports of a possible natural source for lead in the area. One might speculate that the lead more likely was a byproduct of rustic manufacture of bullets at the small army fort that existed in Tubac in the mid-19th century.
