An old iron and manganese mine, started around 1870 and abandoned in 1920. The grid reference marks the approximate location of the engine house ruin, just east of the road leading from Straßburg to Ober-Schönmattenwag. An overgrown dump is located in the forest on the opposite site of the road.

The mine worked a deposit of iron and manganese oxides in Zechstein dolomite. In places, where the dolomite is silicified, small pyrolusite crystals occur in vugs.
