Norberg, Västmanland, Sweden

The Norberg Mines has long been one of the most important iron ore mining areas in Sweden. Its has long been known that mining started more than 700 years back, perhaps even as early as the 12th century. At Lapphyttan scientists have found the site of an old blast furnace with parts dated (Carbon-dating) to the early 13th century and proven that local people at the time had the technological competence to run it..

Although the last mine closed about 30 years ago there is plenty of ore left in the ground- would not be surprised if Junior companies show their interest rather soon (2011).
