Barbara vein, Hofsgrund (South field), Schauinsland Pb-Zn mining district, Black Forest, Baden-Württemberg, Germany

Barbaragang, Hofsgrund (Südfeld), Revier Schauinsland, Schauinsland, Freiburg im Breisgau, Schwarzwald, Baden-Württemberg, Deutschland

The Barbara vein nowadays consists only of a few renatured dumps left and right to the road leading from Schauinsland Bergstation to the Hotel Halde ('Halde' is German for dump). West of the road is a little forest in which in the 1990s some carminite and beudantite specimens were collected.

This is a historically very important place where once the ancient mine "Dieselmu(o)t" was located where in 1372 the Lord of Freiburg declared the first mining law in all of the southern German mining fields (Dieselmuter Weistum). The importance of that mine could be seen when visiting the cathedral of Freiburg. There are two large colourful windows depicting mining scenes. The windows were manufactured between 1320-1340. These are the oldest (still existing) pictures of mining scenes in Germany. The money to build the wonderful cathedral came to a large part from the profitable silver mining on Schauinsland and the surrounding mining areas.
