A former small surface Mn mine located on a GROUP OF MORE THAN 30 PATENTED CLAIMS, in the NW ¼ sec. 10, T.24S., R.25E., SE corner of the Bisbee quadrangle, about 9 miles SE of Bisbee, and a little more than 1 mile north of the Mexican border, and approximately 1½ miles NW of the Christiansen Ranch, on private land. Discovered 1954. Owned by the Shattuck Family And Earnest Beyer (1961). Operated by the Marquette & Arizona Copper Co.
Mineralization is psilomelane in stringers, veinlets, and small, irregular bunches along fissure zones in Cretaceous Glance Conglomerate. The ore zone is 76.2 meters long and 2.44 meters thick. The most developed vein strikes N.23ºE. & dips 80ºW. The vein contains pure psilomelane to 9 feet wide, accompanied on both sides by conglomerate in which the finer interstitial material had been laargely replaced by psilomelane (metallized conglomerate). Another deposit strikes N15W and dips steeply westward, it is exposed for a length of 80 feet or more, and the mineralized intervals range from 2 to 4 feet in width. Psilomelane occurs in narrow stringers and small, irregular bunches. Most manganese ore was found on only two claims. Small manganese nodules are widespread in the conglomerate.
Workings are superficial trenches to 350 feet long. The largest open cut is about 80 feet long, 6 to 8 feet wide, and 4 to 8 feet deep. Much of the material removed was rejected as waste. Also, there are two shallow cuts about 40 feet apart, one is 15 feet long, the other is about 30 feet long. This mine produced two carloads of sorted manganese oxides in 1917-1918, and a few truck loads in 1954.
