An underground copper mine consisting of three shafts and an adit located near Greenland, MI. The Nebraska Mining Co. was organized in 1854 and worked sporadically until 1863, when it was absorbed by the Caledonia Mining Co. The mine produced approx. 120,000 lbs. of refined copper. The Nebraska and Caledonia are connected underground through the lower adit levels. Today the mine is owned by Red Metal Explorations. Copper can be found near the entrance, but the real prize here are the ancient "hammerstones" used by the prehistoric Indians to extract copper.
