A former surface and underground Cu-Au-Ag-Fe mine group located in the W½ (SW¼), sec. 18, T7N, R12W (Salome 15 minute topo map), on land of unknown status. Owned/opereated at times, or in part, by the Desert Mining & Development Co.; Black Reef Copper Co.; Desert Mining Co.; Consolidated Arizona Mines; Consolidated Mines Syndicate; Centroid Consolidated Mines; and Herbert. Owned and operated by Mr. Harris of Arizona; and, by Mr. Snyder (1949).
Mineralization is copper sulfides and secondary ores with quartz, hematite, siderite and wall rock breccia, in lenses and pods in strong, lensing, iron-rich, NW-striking veins along mineralized faults and shear zones cutting the Precambrian metamorphics, intruded by later granitic and diorite dikes. The wall rocks are chloritized. Strong leaching, oxidation, and enrichment occurred in the upper part of the veins.
Workings include a shaft, tunnels and open cut. This mine was prospected in the late 1800's and early 1900's, but was mined, mainly and sporadically, from about 1916 to 1949. Total production would be some 410 tons of ore averaging about 2.4% Cu, 0.38 oz. Au/T and 0.5 oz. Ag/T.
