Quartette Mine (Independence Mine; Perseverance Mine; Quartzite Mine), Kofa District, Kofa Mts (S.H. Mts), Yuma Co., Arizona, USA

A former surface and underground Au-Ag-Cu mine located in the center of sec. 1, T2S, R17W, on federal land. Owned at times, or in part, by Fries; Quartette Mining Co.; Ely; and the Nassan Mining Co.

Mineralization is fine-grained, free gold with silver and minor copper minerals with iron and manganese-stained quartz in an irregular farcture zone cutting Cretaceous or Tertiary andesite.

Workings in clude a shaft(s) and open cut operations. This mine was worked sporadically in 1914-1917, 1935-1936, and 1940. It produced some 550 tons of ore averaging about 1.3 oz. Au/T, 2.0 oz. Ag/T and 0.2% Cu.
