A Au-Ag-Cu-U mining district located in T7-8S, R19-20W, in the Muggins Mountains, East of Yuma.
Mineralization is varied: (1) Relatively small, scattered, gold placer deposits in dry washes and in Tertiary cemented gravels, derived from free gold in quartz veins and veinlets in Mesozoic gneiss and schist; (2) Minor free gold and local copper mineralization associated with quartz veins and pegmatite dikes; (3): Bentonitic clay in old upper lake beds; and, (4) Indicated uranium mineralization in volcanic tuff and lacustrine sediments.
Workings are numerous small placer and prospecting operations since the 1860's. Total estimated and recorded placer production would amount to some 1,000 oz. of gold with about 200 oz. of silver. Mine production of base and precious metal ore would not amount to more than about 100 tons containing some 22 oz. of gold and a few oz. of silver and pounds of copper.
