Bentonite Mine, Plomosa District, Plomosa Mts, Yuma Co., Arizona, USA
A bentonitic clay mine group located in West-central sec. 25, T7N, R17W. Owned by Bellus.Mineralization is bentonitic clay in alluvium. Probably an old lake bed. The quality iof this clay is unknown but probably swelling type and derived from alteration of tuffaceous sediments.
Workings include shallow surface openings. This mine reportedly produced a few hundred tons for local use as drilling muds in the 1940's.
