A former surface and underground Mn-Pb-Zn mine located in East-central (center E½E½) sec. 29, T2S, R22W (protracted), on a military reservation. Owned at times, or in part, by Gibson; Todd & Smith; J.P. Stewart & Associated; Todd & Allen. The Western Exploration & Development Co. had unspecified involvement here (1959). NOTE: Alternate coordinates provided: 33.2233N, 114.5428W.
Mineralization is pyrolusite and psilomelane, mixed with calcite and brecciated rock, in lenticular shoots along an extensively brecciated shear zone in Tertiary andesitic porphyry. Trace amounts of lead and zinc.
Workings include an open cut, shaft and adit operations. Worked from 1953 through 1959, producing some 4,600 long tons of 40%+ Mn and 9,000 long tons of about 30% Mn.
