A former surface and underground manganese mine located in the SW ΒΌ sec. 13, T2S, R23W (protracted). Owned at times, or in part, by Montoys; Gerlack; J.P. Stewart & Associates; and the Western Exploration & Development Co.
Mineralization is manganese oxides in disconnected, lenticular shoots, with calcite and brecciated rock, along a fracture zone in Tertiary andesitic volcanics.
Workings include and open cut and shaft operations. This mine was worked from 1954 through 1959, producing some 650 long tons of 40%+, sorted Mn ore.
