Deformed Cambrian-Ordovician metamorphics, feldspar-quartz-biotite gneiss and pegmatites, intruded by Tertiary andesitic-dacitic to latitic-trachytic volcanic dikes, tuffs and breccias. This district was an important producer of alluvial gold, with minor production of Au-W-Pb-Zn from veins. Au veins hosted in La Rica gneiss. Zn-Pb veins hosted in the volcanics. New mining project called "Diente Verde" (green tooth) to produce gold and copper.
