A former small surface and underground W mine located in the NE ¼ sec. 30, T.17S., R.7E., about ½ mile S of the San Juan Spring. Discovered in 1951 by Mr. William H. Coplen. First produced 1952. Owned at times, or in part, by Wm. H. Coplen; Taylor & Gorman; and the United States Uranium Co.

Mineralization is discontinuous bands of spotty scheelite along a fault zone in Cretaceous sediments metamorphosed to quartzite and hornfels. Alteration was argillaceous products. The ore body is 152.4 meters long, and up to 1.22 meters wide, strikes NE-SW, and dips between 30 to 60SE. Quartzitic rock metamorphosed to hornfels.

7 samples cut across the width of the vein in 1953 for 300 feet length averaged 0.34 percent W03. These were taken over vein widths ranging from 0.9 to 14 feet and averaged 4.5 feet.

Workings include 2 shafts, open cuts and an adit(s). Most of the ore came from the north shaft and the drift on the 32 foot level. Some 8,000 pounds of tungsten concentrates were produced in 1954 and 1957. Production by Coplen in 1954-1956 amounted to about $21,000 (period values) and by the Mountain States Uranium Co. in 1957 to about $7,500.
