A former small underground Cu-Ag-Au mine group located in South-central sec. 1 (12 ?), T.16S., R.5E. (protracted)(Comobabi 7.5 minute topo map), at Comobabi. Produced 1907. Owned at times, or in part, by Weldeman; and the Papago Copper Co.
Mineralization is spotty copper carbonates and chalcocite in an irregular quartz vein along a fissure zone in Laramide granitic rocks. Minor cinnabar is present. Gold the size of mustard seed to 0.15 oz was common; several nuggets of 0.73 oz were recovered. The source of the gold is believed to be tourmaline-quartz veins in Precambrian rock.
Workings include tunnels. A relatively small tonnage of ore averaging about 0.1 oz. Au/T, 29 oz. Ag/T, and 19% Cu, were produced in 1907.
Placers are found in gulches that dissect the pediment slope on the SW flank of the Sierra Prieta and in the gravel-floored plain between this pediment and Skull Valley. The richest placers are on the gravel-floored plain west and south of Copper Basin (T13N, R4W).
