A former small underground Cu-Mo-Zn-Ag-Au-W mine located in West-central sec. 26, and sec. 27 (?), T.16S., R.8E., on 20 unpatented claims, in the Coyote Mountains, about 35 miles south of Tucson at the head of the North Fork of Mendoza Canyon at an altitude of 4500 feet. Owned by Manzo; Death & Mitchell; Calvillo; and, Kerr.
Mineralization is partly oxidized sulfides with skarn minerals in small, high-grade, pyrometasomatic bodies in a roof pendant of faulted, metasomatized Paleozoic limestone along a contact with Laramide aplitic to pegmatitic quartz monzonite. Host rock is the Martin Formation. An associated rock unit is the Pan Tak Granite. Ore control was the contact of the limestone and igneous rocks. This is a high grade deposit.
Workings include shaft and adit operations with over 400 feet of underground workings. Worked sporadically from 1909 to 1951, producing some 700 tons of ore averaging about 10% Cu, 0.03 oz. Au/T and 1.7 oz. Ag/T. In 1967, the Consolidated Red Poplar Minerals Ltd of Canada drilled nine diamond drill holes.
